The Consumer Technology Association celebrated its 100th year with CES 2024. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has a rich and diverse history that dates back several decades.

The organization was founded in 1924 as the Radio Manufacturers Association (RMA) with the aim of promoting the radio industry, which was a thriving technology at the time. Over the years, the association evolved and expanded its focus to encompass other emerging consumer technologies.

In 1949, the RMA changed its name to the Radio-Television Manufacturers Association (RTMA) to reflect the growing popularity of television. As the consumer technology landscape continued to evolve, the association underwent another name change in 1953 and became the Electronic Industries Association (EIA).

Under the EIA, the organization expanded its scope beyond just radio and television to include other cutting-edge technologies such as home appliances, computers, semiconductors, and telecommunications equipment.

In 1997, the EIA changed its name once again, this time to the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA), to reflect its focus on consumer electronics products. The association continued to adapt to the ever-changing technology industry, representing manufacturers, importers, and distributors of consumer electronics in the United States.

In 2004, the organization rebranded as the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), a name that reflected its dedication to serving the consumer electronics industry and promoting innovation. This name was used until 2015, when the association changed its name again to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) to better reflect the diversity of technologies it represents.

Today, the CTA is a leading trade association that represents more than 2,200 consumer technology companies worldwide. It hosts the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES), one of the largest and most influential tech conferences in the world. The CTA works to advocate for policy that supports innovation, promotes the growth of the consumer technology industry, and enhances the lives of individuals through technology.

Overall, the Consumer Technology Association has played a significant role in shaping the consumer technology landscape and continues to drive innovation in the industry today.

This year's exhibitors did not disappoint. Attending CES in 2023 did not prepare me for what would be unveiled in 2024. I focussed on the automotive tech rolling out in the future, but several other companies also caught my eyes. From food tech, to AI, to gaming, and beyond, CES 2024 offered visitors a chance to go all on and test out new, existing and upcoming products. In the coming weeks, I'll deep dive into the new tech that caught my eye and the future of mobility for the automotive world.
